The Pregnancy Pages (p. 1)

28 Weeks: Today is the first day of my third trimester. I have become well acquainted with the aches and pains, blessings and celebrations of pregnancy. My home is quiet; my partner is fast asleep. My son within is doing his tremendous growing act, and I am so very proud of him!

As he moves around within my belly, I feel his gentle shifts. They comfort me. My partner and I saw him today in an ultrasound. Wiggling and squirming in a good way, he also appeared very shy… or perhaps he was initiating a game of “Hide and Seek”! He hid his face with his hands and umbilical cord for most of our appointment then peered out looking straight at us for a moment. I could see the lens of his eye; this may be because the sound waves go straight through the eyelid, or it may be because his eye was actually open. The technician was not sure. Either way, I could see eyes that are shaped like mine. How do I describe the shape of an eye?

Embedded in circular skin, a direct gaze. Bold and everlasting in the present moment. Feeling seen; seeing. Looking intently, deeply, compassionately, the epitome of intensity.

My partner has, what I would call, Eagle Eyes. Observant, watchful. Taking in details without reacting. Waiting for what is truly important before making a move. Stillness surrounding clear vision.

How lucky I am to have these two men in my life. Partner and son. We are growing as a family, healthy and strong. What tremendous love I have to share everyday, at home and beyond, encouraged by the journey of becoming a mom.
